Dear Chancellor Klein

We in the East Harlem Community know that the restoration of the empty P.S. 109 will provide more space for our children throughout theschools in our district and will ensure a better education for them.

A survey of 22 schools in 2001 done by the East Harlem Coalitin to Improve our Public Schools entitled "Report of the Sub-Committee on Need for Space in School District #4 Public Schools" (available on request) documented the need for space. The survey was read and approved by each principal. A copy of the report was sent to the New York City Department of Education.

This need for more space in our schools is desperate. Smaller classes will help to insure a better education for all of of our children. My three children went to P.S. 109 in the 1950s and 1960s and got a good education there. I know it can be done.

The Community Education Council of District #4 strongly supports the need for the restoration of P.S. 109 in the 2005-2006 capital budget and to work hard to get this restoration done fast.

Your commitment to providing a good education for all of our children is well known. Please add the restoration of P.S. 109 to your accomplishments.

With best wishes to you in your challenging task.

Sincerely,

The Rev. NORMAN C. EDDY
