Re: Placement of PS 109 into the Capital Budget

Dear Ms. Goodwin::

Thank you for your follow-up letter to the Chancellor regarding restoration of P.S. 109 Manhattan. Because execution of the Department of Education (DOE) Five Year Capital Ploan falls undeer my purview, the Chancellor requested that I respond directly to you on this matter

As stated in my April 21st letter, DOE current enrollment figures and demographic projections do not support the need for expanding the number of seats in District 4. Your letter indicates that you have a study that concludes the opposite. We would be very interested in reviewing the document and would appreciate your sharing this information with us.

Should you have any other quyestions or concerns, please do not hesitate to call the NYC School Construction Authority (SCA) Project Support Manager, Michael Mirisola at 718-472-8082.

You also recommended selling the property at P.S. 198 Manhattan and using the funds to restore P.S. 109. However, it is not in the best interests of the City to sell its property. In addition, your suggestion of sending the P.S. 198 students, which are in District 2, to P.S. 109 raises significant logistical issues.

Again, I thank you for your recent letter.

Sincerely,

WILLIAM H. GOLDSTEIN
President and CEO
