Dear Fellow East Harlem Clergy,

In cooperation with the Coalition to Save P.S. 109 and its leader, Ms. Gwen Goodwin, I am writing to ask for your help in getting Mayor Bloomberg and Chancellor Klein to restore the empty P. S. 109 as a school. Our East Harlem public school students desperately need space.

I have been a minister and a resident with my family in East Harlem since 1950. My three children went to P.S. 109. I know from sad experience the desperate need of many of our children here fro a good education. I am sure that most of you share these feelings. Will you cooperate with the Coalition to Save P.S. 109 to provide more school space for our children? ART SPACE wants P.S. 109 as apartments for artist ...a worthy cause..but our children come first.

To help in doing this, we suggest that you do the following:
Write Mayor Bloomberg and Chancellor Klein asking them to renovate P.S. 109 as a school:

Mayor Michael Bloomberg
City Hall, New York 10007

Chancellor Joel Klein
Department of Education
52 Chambers Street
New York, New York 10007

Include your personal experiences of working with East Harlem children. Send a copy of your letter to Gwen Goodwin.

2. Get the enclosed petition copied signed, and returned to Gwen Goodwin.

I have learned that almost every East Harlem church has members who are public school teachers. Also, many are active parents in their children's schools. Would you enlist their support in getting these petitions signed? It would be a great help.

As we all know, Jesus loved children. Enclosed is a quote from PROVERBS challenging us to speak up for them today.

Yours in Jesus's Spirit,

The Rev. Norman C. Eddy
